The Young Women in Our Ward are Focusing on Becoming Self-Reliant!

"What skills do we need to help us become self-reliant? . . . In the early days of the Church, Brigham Young pled with the sisters to learn to prevent illness in families, establish home industries, and learn accounting and bookkeeping and other practical skills. Those principles still apply today. Education continues to be vitally important. . . . "I asked several bishops what self-reliance skills the sisters in their wards needed most, and they said budgeting. Women need to understand the implications of buying on credit and not living within a budget. The second skill bishops listed was cooking. Meals prepared and eaten at home generally cost less, are healthier, and contribute to stronger family relationships." Julie B. Beck, Relief Society general president.

Lesson 1: Know YOUR Worth

The Big Picture
The amount of money you have doesn't determine your worth. You are priceless because you are a daughter of a Heavenly Father who loves you.

Application
There are many distractions along life’s way, but the true hunt for happiness is an inward journey that begins and ends with our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

What it Boils Down To:
The simple truth is that things do not have the power to define you. You are a beloved daughter of our Heavenly Father and He loves you.
1. Rom. 5: 3-5
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
2. 1 Tim. 6: 10
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have derred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Does Heavenly Father care more about what we have or who we are? At the end of the day, how important are our possessions?

You are much more important to Heavenly Father than you realize. He knows every detail about you, right down to the hairs on your head. Is that comforting to you?
1. Matt. 10: 29-31
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Heavenly Father isn’t sitting in a big chair in Heaven, just waiting for you to mess up so He can throw a lightening bolt your way. He loves you. He created you in His image! He has created this world for us and wants us to be happy. It is our responsibility to take care of what he has given us and do the best with what we have. That’s all he expects from us.
1. Gen. 1: 26-27
26 ¶ And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
1. Rom. 8: 38-39
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
